Poland’s submission to the 94th Academy Awards and winner of the Premio Bisato d’Oro critics’ award for best picture at the 78th Venice International Film Festival, LEAVE NO TRACES is a poignant picture of injustices of the communist era in Poland. Based on the best-selling book by Cezary Lazarewicz (2017 Nike Literary Award), the film depicts true events that shook the nation in early 1980s.
Jurek Popiel, the only witness to the murder of his friend Grzegorz Przemyk, the son of opposition poet Barbara Sadowska, decides to fight for justice and testify against the repressive state militia responsible for his death. Once the matter is picked up by international media and twenty thousand people march in the streets of Warsaw behind Przemyk’s coffin, the authorities decide to use all available means against the witness to clear the state’s responsibility for the crime.
