Young Gerda sets off into the great unknown in search of her friend Kai. On her journey she makes many friends but is unaware that a hostile enemy is watching her: the evil Snow Queen and her gargoyle apprentice Louie. The Snow Queen has abducted Kai and keeps him prisoner in her ice palace way up in the freezing north of Norway.
