The Story

In the latest film from Saudi Arabia’s first female filmmaker, Haifaa Al Mansour (dir. Wadjda), an ambitious young doctor at a small-town clinic in Saudi decides to run for her local city elections. Confronted with the restriction of women’s traditional roles at every turn, her audacious candidacy challenges her conservative community in this eye-opening tale of one woman's quest to challenge not only the system but also herself.
