But grief follows its own rhythm: her daughter retreats inward, the in-laws offer judgment disguised as help, and state bureaucracy proves cold and indifferent. 

Led by a raw yet restrained performance by Pavla Beretová, Year of the Widow is an intimate, quietly powerful study of mourning and renewal. With poetic realism and emotional depth, it traces one woman’s solitary path to reclamation—of self, of space, and of a future reshaped by loss.
